The Story Thus Far…
Thain Boatworks was started by Rob Smith in March of 2005. A Reuel Parker 50′ Pilothouse design caught Rob’s eye and he and his nephew, Albert van Rooyen, dove right in. The beautiful Annie, the fruit of their labor can be viewed under the Pleasure Craft drop down menu.
Thain Boatworks, Inc. has grown to include a staff of enthusiastic seasoned craftsmen who love their work. With Rob Smith as president and Albert Van Rooyen our naval engineer our staff now includes general manager, bookkeeper, engineer, project manager, shop foreman and a crew of quality focused craftsmen and women who are eager to serve you.
HISTORY: In 2009, Thain Boatworks began aiding Earthwise Ventures in building a fleet of 65′ power catamaran passenger ferries for Lake Victoria. The twist is that Thain would build the ferry in “components” here in Arlington, WA, load them into four shipping containers, and ship them to Entebbe, Uganda, reassembling them on the north shores of Lake Victoria.
In May 2010, the containers arrived and Thain builders were there to receive them. With re-assembly completed, the Amani, our 1st catamaran passenger ferry for Earthwise Ferries is now operating in Ugandan waters with services to the SeeSe Islands and charter cruises in the Kampala / Entebbe region.
Our second passenger ferry has now arrived in Uganda and is in the process of re-assembly. We target operations beginning from Pt Bell in Kampala to Mwanza, Tanzania during the 3rd quarter 2013.
